Social Infrastructure Strategy

HillPDA was engaged by Strathfield Council to prepare a Social Infrastructure Strategy for the Strathfield Local Government Area (LGA). The study analysed and forecasted the distribution and delivery of social infrastructure across the Strathfield LGA for the next 10 to 20 years. The study was informed by the Strathfield Local Strategic Planning Statement and supports the Council and community’s desire to ensure infrastructure development aligns with population and housing growth.

Key elements of the study included:

  • Reviewing the strategic context of NSW Government, Greater Sydney Committee and Strathfield Council plans
  • Reviewing current population and projected future population demographics
  • Identifying existing social infrastructure located within the Strathfield LGA and within a reasonable distance from the LGA boundary
  • Determining opportunities and challenges for social infrastructure in the Strathfield LGA
  • Using best practice benchmarks and delivery models.

Project outcome:

An overarching vision and guiding principles for social infrastructure in the Strathfield LGA were developed though the strategy. In addition, a hierarchy of social infrastructure provision was also developed for the purpose of assisting and analysing the spatial provision of social infrastructure. Finally, the strategy identified specific directions and actions to help guide future development in the LGA, alongside an implementation action plan with assigned timeframes.
