HillPDA Melbourne receives 2013 TAS PIA Planning Award
Congratulations to Kingborough Council, Beca, MGS Architects, Inspiring Place, Gandy & Roberts, Milan Prodonovich and HillPDA on receiving the 2013 TAS PIA Excellence in Planning Award – Best Planning Ideas Small Project – for the Former Kingston High School Site Development Plan!
It was great working not only with a proactive and responsive Council but also with an enthusiastic and hardworking project team. In awarding the project the honour, PIA noted:
The Kingston High School site comprises extensive open space and a range of school buildings adjacent to a small commercial centre. The Development Plan demonstrates a comprehensive approach to the integration of the redundant education facility into the broader town centre fabric and surrounding natural and built environment.
The Plan elects to complement, rather than compete with the existing town centre and maintains significant public open space. An excellent aspect of this development plan was the inclusion of a detailed implementation plan informed by risk considerations of matters such as flooding. The implementation plan details a staged approach and clearly outlines the process for implementation.
Extensive stakeholder and community input has informed and shaped the development plan which has provided for the needs of pedestrians, cyclists and the users of open space with consideration of the site’s context and historical use.
