Premier Lara Giddings supports the Former Kingston High School Development Plan
An in-principle agreement has been reached between the Tasmanian State Government and Kingsborough Council for the sale of the former Kingston High School Site. The transfer of ownership will allow Council to continue to implement the recommendations and outcomes of the Kingston High School Site Development Plan.
Hill PDA were engaged by Council to develop land use options for the site. This included not only feasibility analysis but also assisted Council in balancing community and social benefits with private interests.
The redevelopment of the site will unlock around $100 million in investment and create hundreds of jobs over the next decade. The site will consist of a mix of commercial, residential and community uses, with 50% of the land also set aside for public open space. Space for a new Integrated Care Centre to be built by the State Government has also been set aside.
The Premier, Lara Giddings, said the sale to the Council represented a fair commercial return for the asset, while also ensuring that future development on the important site would be sensitive and in keeping with community expectations. Under the agreement the site will be sold to the Council for $1.44 million.
Details of the formal sales agreement are being finalised and are subject to approval by Parliament.
